How to use standard or virtual folders in Hotmail?

When you create a Hotmail account, the account automatically comes with 6 standard folders. They cannot be renamed or removed as they play the necessary role. Those six standards labels are Inbox, Junk, Sent, Archive, Drafts and Deleted. Hotmail support here informs you that besides these you can create as many folders and subfolders you want. The folders you create can be moved, renamed or removed.

In addition, Hotmail launched numerous productivity attributes under the umbrella terms “Sweep”. We will focus on the ones that act like virtual folders: the view filter, the categories and search results- any kind of email that matches the conditions you set out. This guide covers everything you need.

  1. To use Inbox: All received messages can be found in the Inbox. The Messages apparent as spam go straight to the Junk folder. Create mail filters to shift emails matching definite circumstances to another folder of your preference. There are many actions available to rules, but shifting emails is the most used. To see if you have got a new mail, click the circular arrow or hit the M key instead of leading the whole webpage.
  2. To use the Sent folder: A copy of every email you send from the web browser version of Hotmail gets saved into the Sent folder, by default. It can be disabled. In case, someone didn’t receive your email, you can use the forward the same from the copy you have in the Sent folder instead of typing it again.

To know how to use the archive, junk, drafts, or deleted folders you can contact our experts. If order to use ‘virtual folders’, follow these:

  1. View filter: Give a click on the “View” dropdown menu beside the top left corner of the email folder listing. Here you can select from the options to see unread emails, only display emails from the existing contacts, etc.
  2. Email Categories: Hotmail comes with in-built Categories and you can create our own. Email newsletters you get are automatically tagged/labeled as choosing the Newsletter category on the left, below your labels.
  3. Shipping Updates is a very helpful kind. Any email that comprises package tracking numbers for major shipping carriers will automatically display under that category. Please note that any category access a number to display the number of unread emails it has and displays up in bold when it contains any.
